... (current project: www.ScrappersMovie.com) ...Beginning with a modest grant from The University of Chicago in 2004, this project took about two years to shoot, and another fourteen months to cut eighty-something hours of footage down to 78 minutes. Our goal was to make a verite feature that relied neither on didactic narration to prop-up its story arc, nor on hollow cutaways to inflate and sensationalize experts' detatched testimonials. Thax's openness, patience, and cooperation are what ultimately made it possible for us to achieve the level of intimacy that we were shooting for. Our sincerest gratitude must also be extended to his parents, Ted Douglas and the late Gabrielle Douglas. Without their trust and generosity, our film would have suffered greatly.
Many thanks to everyone in Chicago who granted us access, and especially to those who gave us interviews. In addition to the kindness of strangers, direct support from the following organizations made this film possible: Fire Escape Films, Crime Fiction Pictures, The University of Chicago Arts Planning Council.
In 2007, THAX had its World Premiere at The Chicago Underground Film Festival:

The DVD is now available at Golden Age, Quimby's, Hard Boiled Records & Video, Permanent Records, and all three Reckless locations.
